Internet privacy has become a big concern nowadays. Although we might not have encountered a serious problem due to our important personal information being disclosed, but the threat posed by easily collected and processed information on the internet can not be neglected. A very nice example given by the author explains the ill effects. What if employers started inferring health information about their employees (or prospective employees) based on information about visitors to medical- or health-related Web sites. This is simply unethical and obviously shouldn't be tolerated. But the question is that how do we come to know whether our personal information is accessible, or which websites don't offer the protection of information.
I think that we must remain alert and keep a check on the websites, after all it is for our benefit. We must ensure that there is a privacy policy which protects our privacy whenever we share some information on the net.

“Internet privacy consists of privacy over the media of the Internet: the ability to control what information one reveals about oneself over the Internet, and to control who can access that information. Many people use the term to mean universal Internet privacy: every user of the Internet possessing Internet privacy.” (Wikipedia.org) I felt there was inadequate information given in the articles posted so I thought of doing a bit research on it myself. The language used is quite formal and technical. However, I personally used websites, which are credible. I primarily judge a website’s credibility by its use of citations and the date it was last updated. I see if it mentions the author of its article. Only then will I sign up on such a website if I need it’s services. However, most of us prefer to see if it’s free or not, first. Internet privacy can be a serious issue for those whose life is threatened by anyone. However, I am pretty cautious of Internet privacy as I do not what might happen in the future and how it might cause trouble for me. These days social networking websites are the main sources where one’s details can be traced so one needs to careful when setting the privacy preferences on websites like ‘facebook.com’ and ‘orkut.com’

"The biggest challenge concerning internet privacy right now is ignorance: People aren't worried enough, and are careless.” – Esther Dyson, first article, third paragraph. I could not agree more with Dr. Dyson. People who know how to protect themselves will NEVER be susceptible to identity theft, information leakage or any other type of problem related to internet privacy.
Most recommendations given on the articles are vacant. The only one useful suggestion is about third party software being recommended to protect privacy. But if you are an advanced user, you would not even need that. All browsers give you a lot of security settings to play with, knowing how to set the settings on the right security level is good enough protection.
Of course there are exceptions were you do need higher protection software. But it all depends on the user. If the user likes to pirate music and games, he likely does need “extra” software to protect against security threats, since pirated files are mostly hosted by malicious websites containing harmful data.
Thus, the most important thing is concerning internet security is knowledge. People need to know which sites are secure. People need to know what software might help. They also need to know how to maximize security settings to enable secure internet browsing. Getting informed on internet privacy is half the step towards a completely secure web browsing envirionment. The other half is learning how to protect yourself against these threats.

Internet privacy is the biggest challenge of the software engineers. Hackers and various sites can track your activities within split seconds. Some sites can even check how many times you have read your mail and how many times you have forwarded it. the worst part is that they store every information of the user in a repository. They can put the together the different information from the different sites and can easily make a user's profile. This can have a huge effect on the professional lives because the employers can have an access to our personal lives. The work ethics might change and the world may not remains the same. Not only swiping your credit cards at a shopping mall can be dangerous as well. As we all saw what happened in New York where thousands of credit cards information was stolen from the shopping mall.

I would suggest that the software like annoymizer should be encouraged more. people should be more aware about this. One should not put their personal information and the bank details on the sites. They should look for more secure sites where they can be sure that their identity will not be stolen. However, i see a great job opportunities in this field. If anyone who loves software development, he should make a software which can secure our identities.

There was a huge customer information theft in Korea, One of the major auction sites in Korea, have stolen their customers’ information stolen by Chinese hacker. The Customer’s information contained social security number, phone number, address, credit card information. Korean government is trying to track back the hacker, but they have not found him yet. This incident made Korean to be more aware of the privacy on the internet. I think the personal information should be deleted once the company used the customers’ information on what is necessary. It is not for them to keep unless customers want it. In that way, customers do not have to worry about getting their information stolen, On the other hand, the awareness about internet security amongst people has to be increased. We do get a lot of benefit from internet be we have to know there are certain risk of getting one’s information out there.

Till now, I think people still have not paid enough attention toward the problem of Internet Privacy, which can be taken many loopholes by others. People's search ability basedon the internet is really terrifying. The famous "Tong Xu" gate incident happened on the internet game "World of WarCraft "on China sever showed how exposed we are on the internet. The incident broke out that a man's wife met another guy in the game, and betrayed his husband. The husband put his story onto the website and trie to find that guy. The incident called on hundreds of thousands people, not long, imformation included his name, birth day, education from 5years old to current, his adress, his parents job are all searched out by others. Although that guy did bad for the husband, but what happened the next might destroyed his whole life.
Internet makes our life more convinent, but while enjoy the benefits of Internet, we should pay more attention to our privacy, and I think the government should give out a privacy law of internet as soon as possible to make the internet an ease place for everybody to get in.

The concern of internet insecurity has been exposed to almost all of the internet users for long. As one of the so-called internet consumers, I left behind much of my personal information. For examples, I have to fill up electronic forms with personal information for SAT registrations or college insurance applications. Sometimes, when I purchase online, I’m still much concerned about my credit card information; how would I know whether one website is more credible than the other, so that they won’t steal my credit card. The answer is that I don’t know and I prefer to purchase on the websites of big companies such as American Airlines. This is my first time get acquaintance of so many terms such as web bugs, cookies and anonymity. The problem seems to be that many of us don’t know what more to do to protect ourselves from the insecure online world, rather than utilize the fire-wall. The anti-spam laws both in Japan and Europe showed the effort that the government paid to regulate internet world. My personal view of this would be trusting the protection from our domestic government. Also, exposed personal information to either the government or the business websites won’t do harm on us. Even if it’s in the off-line world, it’s nearly impossible to either avoid commercial soliciting or disappear from government’s record. Heavy exposure of personal information would lead to severe situations, however, we should not worry too much and make ourselves upset while we are minding the credibility of current visiting websites as well as our own manner of words on public blogs.

The leakage of the personal information on the Internet is still increasing. The internet privacy is a big challenge for the government and the computer engineers. It is true that the there are lots of intentionally leaking personal information incidents, but I think the most important reason is people aren't worried enough, and are careless. Other people are worried too much, and are paranoid.
I have received the junk-emails very frequently because I like shopping on-line. But I never realized that the personal information I left on the website have not been deleted. I think there are lots of people that they are not pay attention for the personal privacy especially the new consumers who are shopping on-line. Of course, the companies only few of them posted the privacy policies on-line, consumers have little knowledge about or control over the use of their personal information.
I think internet privacy would be a tough problem during a long time. The things that we can do is only to pay more attention when we purchasing on-line and find if the companies posted the privacy policies. The solution will be made by various fields, the governments, the companies and us.

When I open my email today, eight of ten my e-mails are unsolicited commercial emails that I don’t know what it is and how they sent it to me. This is a vivid example of internet privacy violation and I believe most of my classmates are facing the same problem. As the people’s dependency of Internet increases, such as online business and internet social life, the concern of internet privacy is the issue people mostly focused on. From my point of view, protecting internet privacy needs not only the government regulation and the personal protecting actions. Government regulation can effectively prevent the privacy violation, as the author alleged that the anti-spam laws both in Japan and Europe showed the effort that the government paid to regulate internet world. Besides that, one person’s awareness of the internet privacy is the critical point in this issue. For example, I believe more than sixty percent of my classmates have their own face book, but how many of them are aware that their email address and personal profiles in face book can be used by a commercial company without their permission. In the virtual world of internet, we need to pay more effort to protect our internet privacy.

These three articles just can not be understood as easily as last time, when we were talking about culture shock. The word Cookies has been mentioned over and over again. And it is also appears in the internet selection. I used to have no idea about what the Cookies is. Now I knew its definition, use, and the damage it may cause. “The biggest challenge right now is ignorance: People aren't worried enough, and are careless. Other people are worried too much, and are paranoid.” Because I know nothing about Cookies, when I set up the internet selection, I chose not run any Cookies.
And something about P3P, I have to say I can not understand it at all.
Recently the thing we can do is not to post much personal information on net. And hold the expectance of maturity of the laws.

Internet privacy is certainly a major concern today. Despite being such a serious issue, it goes unnoticed by a large amount of population. People while surfing the internet do not realize the importance of being skeptical while revealing information about themselves. While buying things online, we must all check the authenticity of the website and go through the privacy guidelines.
The articles, according to me provided a lot of information and also helped raise my awareness in the field. Now onwards, I would keep a check on where and when to reveal personal information.
The articles also made me realize how and why I kept on getting those emails from companies and people I did not know.
I feel we must remain alert and not provide personal information without thoroughly verifying websites.

Internet is already part of daily life for today. As we are living in digital age, internet privacy become major issue. People know the information can be the great power in nowadays, and some of them are manipulating it through access to other people's privacy. For example, I got a sport magazine which that I never registered before. Moreover, they automatically withdraw the money from my credit card even though I never expose the anywhere! I still have no idea about how they knew my personal information such as my address and credit card numbers.
Many engineers and programmers are trying to make the program or find the way to secure the internet privacy. Unfortunately, there are no 100% secure way to protect the privacy in the internet right now. I heard “quantum cryptography” can be the solution from my friend who is majoring in computer science. However, this technology still has long way to go.
